Please be advised that from the start of semester two 2010/11 and in keeping with other Registry Offices we will no longer be providing coursework cover sheets (CA1 forms) from the lobby area.
These are available for download from the ECS Registry web pages at
There are a number of reasons for this;
Over the last year we have monitored the number of coversheets we provide to the expected number of submissions for a day. On average we are supplying between thirty and forty percent more coversheets than are required per day.
All coursework must be sorted, logged and ready for marking within 48 hours of submission. For every twenty items submitted, three will be almost illegible. This can delay work being ready for marking and increases the staff resource spent on coursework submission. A small percentage of work is undeliverable because we cannot identify what it is, who it is for and occasionally who submitted it. Where we can identify the student we contact them asking to identify the work.
To help us improve our efficiency and maximise our limited staff resources, we hope the withdrawal of the CA1 forms outside of the lobby will encourage students to download the coversheets from the ECS intranet site and type the module information rather than handwriting it. We know we can improve our efficiency if all coversheets are typed.
The rush to submit coursework before the deadline leads to incorrect information on the coursework. By asking students to complete the coversheets online we hope that this part will be done in a timely fashion resulting in fewer errors. It is also hoped that if this part of submission is done before getting to the lobby, there will be a reduction in the number of students who just miss the deadline and lose 10 marks as a result.
Coursework by the numbers: In semester one of this year we had a total of 3410 items of coursework submitted through the lobby.
